Athlete,
James Yorkston Barfly, The Monarch The latest of the excellent Xfm Xposure nights promises great things, as the wonderful James Yorkston brings the subtle charms of his Moving Up Country album to the stage. Over the past year he has developed a spellbinding acoustic sound that has attracted fans as disparate as John Peel, John Martyn, FourTet and the Psychonauts. While it's a mostly delicate affair, as a former bassist with Edinburgh garage-punk band Huckleberry, James also knows how to hang loose and rock out, so hopefully there'll be plenty of that tonight too. Headlining are South London's Athlete, who have a habit of writing insanely catchy pop songs, such as recent hits You've Got The Style and the earlier single West Side. Their line, "hey, it's getting hot in here" should be particularly apt for the sweaty confines of the Monarch in late August. Also on the bill are AudioWhore, who will probably just be playing some records. Tickets are £6 in advance and liable to sell out. Check barflyclub.com for details and tickets. The Monarch is on Chalk Farm Rd, Camden. |
